Islamic finance

Trowers & Hamlins is unique amongst law firms in having offices in each of the three key centres for Islamic Finance; namely London, the Gulf and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Islamic finance is an important area of activity for our overseas practice orientated around the Middle and Far East as well as a growth area in the UK as the sector gains in confidence and sophistication and financial institutions recognise potential demand from the Muslim community and seek to attract investment from the Middle East. We have been involved in Islamic finance since the early 1990s when we structured our first Shari'ah compliant property fund in the UK.

Our cross border team combines an understanding of the principles and requirements of Shari'ah compliant finance with specialist skills in areas such as Islamic banking, project finance, asset finance, real estate, tax and corporate law.

With experience of Islamic Finance regulation and structuring Islamic investments, financings and products in the UK, Europe and across the Middle East we can help you to reach practical and innovative Islamic financial solutions, overcoming the challenges posed by different legal, tax and regulatory systems.

We can work with you on a wide range of Shari'ah compliant fund raisings and financings from complex and innovative sukuk to standard form product documentation.  Our Islamic finance expertise includes capital markets issuances, banking regulation and documentation, project finance, leveraged property funds, development finance, working capital facilities and asset finance.
