ED&I is central to the work we do in recruiting and retaining our Early Talent populations. We have numerous internal initiatives and work with some fantastic external organisations to ensure that we are hiring and developing the best possible talent from a variety of backgrounds.
TrowersIncludes
Trowers & Hamlins is proud of its diverse workforce and our commitment to equality and diversity is formalised into a powerful initiative known as "TrowersIncludes", which runs through life at Trowers.
- TrowersIncludes brings together a network of groups made up of partners, fee-earners and support staff across all of our global offices and champions a range of diversity and inclusion initiatives. Our 10 employee networks are based on the protected characteristics as defined in the Equality Act 2010 (including gender, disability, race, religion and sexual orientation) and drive a full calendar of events as well as awareness raising on relevant issues.
- The ED&I committee meets regularly and comprises the chair of each network as well as key individuals from across the business. In addition to working on specific projects, the Committee monitors and reviews the firm’s approach to equality and diversity in order to maintain a diverse and inclusive working environment.
Work we're doing in Early Talent
- Contextual Recruitment
We use Rare Recruitment's Contextual Recruitment System (CRS) in our Training Contract, Summer Vacation Scheme and Solicitor Apprenticeship applications in order to consider every student's achievements in context. This helps us to identify those with the greatest potential, regardless of barriers they may have faced.
- Mentoring
We have a mentoring programme in place for all of our staff, including Trainees. A Trainee would be paired with an individual at Associate level and may wish to discuss areas such as career development or areas of improvement.
- Social Mobility
- PRIME
Each year we host students for work experience in our London office through our partnership with PRIME. PRIME aim to improve access to, and socio-economic diversity within, the legal profession by providing work experience and skills building for students from across the country.
- City Solicitors Horizons
City Solicitors Horizons is a Social Mobility Programme which aims to improve access to the legal profession for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Each year, a number of students are identified annually from universities across the South East of England and selected to take part in the three year programme alongside their undergraduate degrees.
- Aspiring Solicitors
We are an Affiliate Partner of Aspiring Solicitors, an organisation focused on increasing equality, diversity and inclusion across all under-represented groups in the legal profession.
- Race and Ethnicity
- 10,000 Black Interns
We pledge to employ four interns from the 10,000 Interns Foundation each year, as part of the 10,000 Black Interns programme. The interns join us for 6 weeks over the summer with the aim of increasing access to the profession for Black Heritage candidates. We are also Community Members of the 10,000 Intern Foundation, providing our support for the charity year-round.
- Race Fairness Commitment
We are a founding signatory of the Race Fairness commitment, a series of commitments that aim to increase the opportunities for Black, Asian and other ethnic minority (BAME) lawyers. This has also shaped our Race Action Plan.
- UK Black Business Week and Show
We have sponsored Black in Legal and the Birmingham Black Business Show for 3 consecutive years.
- Disability
We are Disability Confident committed. We encourage an open dialogue around disabilities from recruitment and throughout your time at Trowers & Hamlins. If you require adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process, please do get in touch.
