Does the past have a future? Developing historic buildings for modern living

Renovating historic buildings is always challenging; never more so than in recent years where developers have been put under increasing pressure to deliver modern, efficient buildings and address sustainability issues and energy efficiency.  There initially appears to be an inherent contradiction to that aim when developing historic buildings.

Last month, Historic England published its advice note on approaches to improve the energy efficiency and support carbon reduction of historic buildings, giving guidance on how developers can meet their sustainability goals whilst also conserving the significance and character of historic buildings.

In this session, we will be joined by David Tomback, Development Economics Director at Historic England, who will talk to us about how Historic England are looking to work with developers to deliver modern sustainable projects that also preserve their heritage.

We will also hear from James Procter, Developments Director at JPD Corporation, who will talk about their Residential Hampstead Streatley Development and the practicalities of redeveloping a historic site.

Please join us for what promises to be a fascinating and engaging discussion.
