Union popularity, visibility and activism has been on the increase in recent years, culminating in some of the most significant and disruptive strike action in recent times, with pressure on employer's to meet inflation level pay increases and to improve working terms and conditions across the board.
Emma Burrows was joined by Vanessa James and Rebecca McGuirk to discuss:
- The strike ballot process and what employers can and cannot do during the open ballot;
- Typical risk factors during union disputes and union campaigns (such as leverage campaigns and 'peaceful protests'), and how those might be mitigated;
- The rights and obligations of the parties during strike action (including picket line conduct and etiquette); and
- What employers can and cannot do maintain their operations during strike action (now use of agency cover is unlawful).
