Availability and take-up of faster broadband speeds is expected to add about £17 billion to the UK’s annual Gross Value Added (GVA) by 2024 . Public sector intervention in delivering broadband has had a significant impact on the local economies of the areas benefiting - subsidised superfast coverage is estimated to have led to the creation or retention of 49,000 additional jobs and £2.1bn of overall turnover growth
