On 12 December 2023 Module 6 of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry (Inquiry) opened and the provisional scope of the Module was published (the Provisional Scope). Module 6 will consider the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the adult social care sector across the United Kingdom.
The Provisional Scope is broad, considering both privately and publicly funded adult social care. The Provisional Scope can be found in full here, but of particular interest is that the Inquiry will examine:
- the management of the pandemic in adult care and residential homes;
- the key decisions made by the UK Government and the Devolved Administrations, including discharging people from hospitals into adult care and residential homes;
- the changes to the regulatory inspection regimes within the care sector; and
- deaths related to Covid-19, including deaths of residents and staff.
If you are an individual, organisation or group that played a significant role or had a significant interest in the care sector during the pandemic, you may want to consider becoming a Core Participant in relation to Module 6. Applications to become a Core Participant are now open and will close on 19 January 2023. For more information about becoming a Core Participant please see our previous article.
